Cindy Sherman is renowned for establishing photography as one of the most important contemporary art forms. She is also famous for the manner in which she has used her own image over decades to produce an astonishing gallery of character studies. 

Produced in association with QAGOMA’s presentation of the first exhibition of Sherman’s large-scale photographs made since 2000 to be seen in Australia, this richly illustrated publication explores the artist’s articulate, incisive and influential practice. 

Over 50 of Sherman’s works are illustrated — including the artist’s never-before-seen new works from 2016 — in a publication that showcases colour, texture and character. 

Featuring a highly personal piece on the artist by author, novelist and painter Betsy Berne, a close friend, the publication also includes essays by Dr Miranda Wallace, Senior Curator, International Exhibition Projects, National Gallery of Victoria; Ellie Buttrose, Associate Curator, International Contemporary Art, QAGOMA; and Robert Leonard, Chief Curator, City Gallery Wellington.
