Featuring puppets, costumes, props, animatronics — as well as full-scale film sets — from cross-generational classics such as Fraggle Rock 1983–87, Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock –present, Sesame Street 1969–present, The Muppet Show 1976–81, Farscape 1999–2003, The Dark Crystal 1982 and cult favourite Labyrinth 1986, audiences are invited to immerse themselves in the incredible worldbuilding, visual effects and storytelling of The Jim Henson Company.
Developed in close collaboration with The Company, this beautiful, richly illustrated publication features some of the most cherished characters in screen history and explores their indelible imprint on entertainment, education and popular culture. The publication also explores the enduring legacy of The Jim Henson Company, a creative powerhouse, renowned for its independent, values-driven creativity and its pioneering experimentation, collaboration and innovation.
Featuring an overview by exhibition curator Amanda Slack-Smith, and contributions by Henson family members — Lisa Henson, CEO; and Brian Henson, Chairman, Board of Directors, The Jim Henson Company — as well as others from the world of film, television and puppetry, the publication reflects on the workings of a family-run studio and shares insights into the lives of puppeteers and creators, particularly their artistry, influences and emotionally resonant storytelling. Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company features more than 140 full-colour illustrations of works in the exhibition, as well as a complete film program listing.
