This title explores the night's potential for technical experimentation, scientific inquiry, and poetic introspection, through over 100 works from the 17th century to today. From the 17th-century research of Galileo and Maria Clara Eimmart to the works of Johann Carl Loth, Giuseppe Antonio Petrini, and Antonio Canova, and through the nocturnes of artists such as Victor Hugo, Marc Chagall, Jackson Pollock, and Joseph Cornell, to the contemporary cosmic visions of Vija Celmins and Thomas Ruff.'Five Centuries of Stars, Dreams, Plenilunes' was produced to accompany a GAM Torino exhibition from 2025/26 curated by Fabio Cafagna and Elena Volpato: NIGHTS. The exhibition centres the nocturnal as a realm of ambiguity, mystery, and discovery, in a dialogue between rationality and emotion, science and visionary imagination.
