Claude Monet (1840-1926) purchased the house in Giverny in 1893 and designed the garden for painting. During the summer of 1899, he created several canvases of this bridge in all its forms and in all kinds of light. The painting is now on display at the MET, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
